Choosing a size

Children vary a lot within an age, so do not go by age alone. If the child is tall or broad for their year, or sits between two age bands, take the larger band. A little extra room lasts longer, and sleeves can be turned once without it showing. For the winter jacket, remember it goes over a sweater, so it should not be snug. For the shirt, cotton looks better with a little room, so the next band up is rarely a mistake.

Fabric and comfort

The shirt and the ruffle set are cotton or cotton blends, which is the most comfortable choice for daytime in Indian weather and the easiest to wash. The sweatshirt set is a soft, hard-wearing knit made for repeated washing. The jacket has a soft inner lining and an outer fabric that takes the chill off on a December school morning. Care

Machine wash cold with a mild detergent. Wash the tie-dye set separately the first couple of times. Turn the jacket inside out and skip the dryer so the lining stays soft. Cotton shirts need only a quick press.
