  • If the child is between two bands, take the larger one. A little length at the sleeve and hem is easy to live with and gets grown into by the next festival.
  • If the child is tall for their year, take the next band up, even if they are slim. Elasticated waists take care of the width.
  • For a shirt worn open over a tee, the larger band looks better anyway.

If you order for a niece or nephew you have not seen for a year, ask their parent for their current height rather than guessing from age. Children grow more in a year than any of us remember.

Matching the family without matching exactly: colour, not print

Family photos look better when everyone shares a colour rather than the same print. Sizing by chest: S to XXL, and how to measure a shirt you own

Every garment in this men’s Diwali outfit guide is sold in five sizes, S to XXL, chosen from a dropdown on the product page. Kurtas and shirts are sized by chest. If you are not sure of yours, do this.

  • Take a shirt that fits you well and lay it flat, buttoned.
  • Measure straight across the chest from armpit seam to armpit seam, and double it. That is your chest measurement.
  • Compare it with the fit described on the product page and order your usual size.
  • For the slim kurta and the tailored shirt, order your usual size. They are cut close on purpose. If you dislike anything snug, go one up.
